Our business areas

Actuarial Private

The largest of our business units, providing advice for occupational Defined Benefit pension schemes. We work with scheme trustees and employers to help them with their regulatory duties, funding strategies and member communications. All are as important as ever in the changing economic and regulatory environment. You'll gain experience on a wide range of ares, combing technical modelling and consulting skills, to deliver tailored solutions for our clients and you'll work towards the IFoA qualification.

Our consultants predict the financial risks affecting pensions and give advice on how to mitigate against these risks. They do this through a combination of complex mathematical modelling, logical reasoning and professional judgement. Their findings and recommendations are then presented in a straightforward and confident way.

We also offer support on specific areas of scheme management and design, including member communications and options, risk transfer, consolidations and wind-up, which continue to be of growing importance within the industry.

Defined Contributions (DC)

A growing and exciting area of our business. With DC now being the predominant main source of future pension contributions, our team offers strategic, investment, governance, at-retirement and communications advice to a wide range of trustee and corporate clients.

By joining our team you'll be working with different consultants and partners across the firm on a wide variety of work from an early stage. You'll also have the option to study for the CFA or actuarial exams to support your learning and progression.

Investment

Our consultants have a passion for fast-paced markets, empowering people and driving better results. Our team advise a range of clients from large pension schemes and endowment funds to other businesses and insurance companies. We work closely with each of them to design and monitor strategies that meet their objectives and liabilities whilst balancing their risk and return requirements. We're constantly thinking of new ideas to improve their portfolios.

You'll have the opportunity to work closely with colleagues across the business, including our specialist market research team and asset transitions team. You'll be involved in a breadth of projects that involve both detailed technical analysis using our in-house models and broad strategic consulting advice. You will have an actuarial focus and you will have the option of studying towards either the IFoA or CFA exams.

We run an annual Women in Investment event, where we show you that working in investments is for every gender.

Actuarial Public

We have a long history of working with local authorities and currently provide advice to over half of the LGPS funds in the UK. It's an exciting time to be part of our team as our clients need support and advice through a period of regulatory change. Our core areas of work are triennial valuations, employer transactions and accounting disclosures. However, we're seeing real demand for broader support in areas such as project management, administration and governance. Not forgetting, we apply our digital first with a digital focus on everything we do.

As a trainee consultant you'll initially be involved in carrying out actuarial calculations and liaising with clients to deliver a great service, but there will also be opportunities to get involved in projects. You'll join a client team early on - allowing you to develop your consulting skills. In addition to learning on the job and studying towards qualifying as an actuary, we also have a detailed training plan to develop both technical and softer skills to support you in performing your role effectively.

Life and Financial Services (LFS)

We help insurers and reinsurers find intelligent solutions to tricky problems, ensuring better futures of their customers and shareholders. We provide targeted advice across six areas - product development; risk and capital management; investment and asset liability management; longevity management; transactions and structuring; and insurance transfers and reporting.

In our team you'll be working with our exceptional consultants and technical experts on a wide variety of stimulating work from an early stage.
