Hardworking, Kind, Organised
‘I enjoy working with Tilbury Douglas mainly for the people. We are on a bit site here at Prince Charles Hospital and everyone is like a family. They are very supportive and push me to be the best I can be’
I got this job through carrying out a week’s work experience during my second year of uni. This then led to me doing a year in industry with Interserve (Tilbury Douglas) on Torfaen Sixth Form College. Following my year in industry, I was offered 2 years of sponsorship to complete my civil engineering undergraduate degree and do my master’s degree before returning as a graduate engineer. Between my undergraduate and masters, I also returned for a summer placement.
I wanted to work on site for my placement year as I wanted to have a greater understanding of how designs are built - the construction aspect of civil engineering isn’t really taught in university, so I wanted to see for myself how designs come to life. Whilst on my year in industry I really enjoyed learning about the construction site of civil engineering, and I guess this is how I ended up coming back.
It offers more than just one type of role, construction has so many routes that you can take, and Tilbury Douglas Construction offers the option to find a role you enjoy and progress.
My main role is quality of built as well as positing and level (surveying). I work on site everyday ensuring that the quality being presented is to the accepted standards and where designs require changing I problem solve and liaise with designers to see if the alternative works.
