I chose this apprenticeship scheme because I felt it offered me the best opportunities and experience. Tilbury Douglas offers a wide range of different apprenticeships and because of this I was able to pick one that best suited me and the career path I wanted to take. I think this apprenticeship scheme was the best option to reach the goal of being a quantity surveyor and I’m glad I get to do it with this company.
My current role is Apprentice Quantity Surveyor, so I work alongside a senior surveyor completing tasks, providing me with first-hand experience. I get the chance to be directly involved with new projects while also learning at the same time.
The culture at Tilbury Douglas is a hard-working yet enjoyable environment. Everyone works hard within the day-to-day job because it’s a positive place to work and there’s always help on hand if you need it. Everyone gets along well creating a productive and encouraging workplace.
Tilbury Douglas focuses on the skills you have and are happy to help anyone out no matter the circumstances. If someone needs help or advice, someone within the team will be there to offer it, making it a warm and welcoming place to work where you don’t have to worry.
One thing I love about working for Tilbury Douglas is the friendly people around that work hands-on with you to help you work towards the career you want, which is something I feel is unique to this company. There is always someone there if you need anything or have any questions and they make you feel welcomed into the company from the moment you step through the doors.
I hope to one day become a chartered surveyor and work within Tilbury Douglas to make an impact within the world of construction, slowly moving my way up within the company so that in the future I’ll be looking after an apprentice like me. Although it’s a while away, I believe I’ll still be working within Tilbury Douglas because of the supportive, friendly team always on hand if you need anything.
I think I make a difference because by employing me, both me and Tilbury Douglas are making a positive change towards more women being involved in construction and although it may not be a big difference at the moment, it’s contributing to the change.
