A day in the life of Lucy Quinn...
I work alongside the Contracts Manager and Project Manager on a site at Derriford Hospital, building an extension to the existing cancer unit. During my time on site, I have been working to assist with managing groundworks, including drainage and foundations.
Daily Schedule:
- 7:15 (start time) - I arrive at work- I start my day by catching up on emails and any tasks left from yesterday, followed by a brief meeting within the office on what is due to happen on site today.
- 9:00 - Most mornings there are meetings with various people- subcontractor meetings, catch-ups with the client, internal team meetings, design meetings, etc.
- 11:00 - Around this time the project manager and I will visit site to see how works are going and speak with the subcontractor supervisors about planned works for the rest of the day.
- 12:30 - For lunch there are on site kitchen facilities, otherwise there are many handy canteens, cafes, and shops on the hospital site to buy food.
- 14.00 - In the afternoon we will visit site again to catch up with the subcontractors on how works for the day are progressing. We may also check on stock of materials to see if anything needs to be ordered, do some surveying including taking levels of manholes, ground levels, etc, or undertake a weekly safety inspection to name just a few things.
- 17:00 (finish time) - Before leaving for the day, I will complete a daily diary to sum up what happened on site during the day and prepare any permits for work for the next morning. Job done!
