As an Environmental consulting graduate at WSP you will have the opportunity to work as part of our Environmental discipline. We’re proud to offer a wide range of services to help our clients identify risks, manage and reduce impacts, and make their business and assets resilient for the future. We’re advisors, but we’re also doers, putting our ideas in to practice. Our Environmental graduates will have a passion for and a degree related to one of the following areas:
We asked our graduates what it’s like to do their job. On a day to day basis, the life of a graduate at WSP starts off in the morning with cups of tea and responding to any urgent client emails.
Beyond that, anything could happen! You could get involved in report writing, visiting site and liaising with contractors, discussing options with colleagues, responding to client requests for information or meetings with the team about the scope and progress of projects.
Naturally, there is a lot to learn and you are likely to be guided through complex software packages, team briefings and client updates from the start. There may even be time for cake.
It may also be helpful to know that we have arranged for some of our graduates to attend our assessment centres where they can tell you more about their typical day and what it’s like to be a graduate at WSP.
Because we understand that all graduates are different, we tailor your training and development accordingly to achieve your own personal goals: providing the specific support you need to reach your potential. Our graduate development programme is a three-year programme designed to provide you with both generic professional skills and specialist technical development opportunities. Aligned with the cornerstones of our business - people, clients, operational excellence, and expertise – the scheme will enable you to explore and develop skills within each of these four areas. The programme is supported by our senior leadership team and tailored to the UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence (UK-SPEC) to give you the support, guidance and the development opportunities you need to help you work towards chartered status or equivalent professional qualifications. The structured programme includes but is not limited to training in;
In addition the area of the business that you join will support your progression through the graduate development programme by providing discipline action days and placements where appropriate, as well as relevant technical training.
Across our offices in the UK, we strive to have a friendly and inclusive culture. One of the key ways that we celebrate this is through our social committees and the events they organise. Some of these events have included office Olympics (including “welly wanging”), go karting outings, BBQs, opera trips and of course the annual Christmas parties!
You could also become part of our Professional Growth Network (PGN). The PGN is a networking group run by early career professionals for early career professionals. It helps to grow your network of contacts across the UK business as well as providing you with opportunities for extra experience to support you in achieving chartered status or other professional accreditations. This includes lunchtime talks, site visits, inter-office quizzes and sporting events.
We also offer a comprehensive wider benefits package which includes:
Our Future Ready programme is helping our clients prepare for future realities of increasing energy prices, more severe weather events, growing urban populations, and prioritising connectivity and flexibility, among many other factors.
We are not just helping our clients to be future ready; we can also make your career future ready. Our 3 years graduate programme is just the start, at the end of the programme we will help you to reflect on what you have learned and discuss how you move forward with your career at WSP. You will continue to benefit from mentor support in working towards any professional qualifications you are looking to achieve. In addition, your formal learning doesn’t stop at the end of the graduate programme. Our dedicated Learning and Development team offer more than 50 training courses as part of our online WSP University.
