We have an opportunity for a Level 6 Apprentice Bridges Technologist to join us on our award-winning apprenticeship programme, working from our Reading office starting in Summer/Autumn 2022.

 As an Apprentice at Stantec, you will be given responsibility from the start along with a suitable guidance and support. Our industry leading programme is designed with your development in mind, to create exceptional Designers of the future. We will pair you with industry professionals, who will guide and mentor you through the initial phase of your career. Together, we will build your technical expertise. You will have access to the latest industry standard digital software and the opportunity to work with our internal and external clients to provide sustainable solutions. Throughout your journey with us, you’ll be involved in the design and delivery of bridges and other highway and rail structures’ projects from start to finish.

Our Apprenticeships allow you to learn whilst you earn, as you study for an academic qualification. You’ll get the chance to expand your knowledge by attending University on either block or one day a week release, whilst simultaneously learning from our industry experts on the job. This will allow you to combine your learning with invaluable experience and to obtain professional accreditation from a recognised professional institution, such as the Institution of Civil Engineers.

In this particular role, you will get the opportunity to work with civil and structural engineers on exciting private and public sector projects that range from local small scale developments to large national frameworks. Ultimately, you will get the chance to develop your digital design skills in transport infrastructure with the focus on bridges and other highways and rail structures. Your day-to-day activities could include:   

Your day to day activities could include: 

  • Using CAD (Computer Aided Design) to produce technical drawings
  • Undertaking structural 3D modelling in BIM (Building information Modelling)
  • Supporting asset management inspections
  •  Providing design advice and support to clients and colleagues
  • Supporting the administration of projects
  • Assisting with data review and analysis
  • Contributing to providing solutions to problems
  • Assisting with site visits to collect information or observe situations

About you

For our apprenticeships no previous experience is required, however for this role previous study of an engineering subject would be beneficial. You will be a positive and proactive team player who demonstrates enthusiasm for engineering and a willingness to apply yourself in a workplace environment.

What we look for:

  •  A keen interest in Civil Engineering and Digital Delivery.
  • For a Level 6 apprenticeship you will need 3 A Levels Grade B or above, one in maths and another ideally in science or a BTEC Diploma in Engineering including mathematics.
  • A basic level of software knowledge in either Autodesk or Bentley would be beneficial
  • A good level of computer literacy including MS Office.
  • Ability to demonstrate attention to detail
  • Good problem solving skills
  • Ability to design, plan and organise parts of projects
  • Can demonstrate a range of clear communication skills, presenting information through verbal, visual and written methods
