The QinetiQ Mechanical Engineering teams work within three distinct Groups; Naval Architecture and Maritime Engineering, Stress, Structures and Advanced Products and Design and Fabrication skill groups.
As part of the Engineering & Operation community, we operate across the breadth of the QinetiQ businesses, including international, covering technology areas such as air platforms, space, ships, submarines and weapon trial solutions.
Naval Architecture and Maritime Engineering - Naval Architects, Marine and Maritime Engineers and Hydrodynamicists with capability in all aspects of surface ship and submarine platform concept design through to in-service support. This multidiscipline Group has specialisms in hydrodynamic testing and SMERAS (Submarine Escape, Rescue, Abandonment and Survivability) using both Haslar and international test facilities but also encompasses many transversal capabilities in structures, CFD, data analysis, requirements generation, noise and vibration, safety cases, trials and control systems. |

Design & Fabrication - Providing Mechanical Design, bespoke manufacturing & assembly into technology areas such as air platforms, space, maritime, submarine propulsion and weapons trial solutions – supported by our in-house Design Assurance & Technical publications ability. The team also support the Operation of trials & facilities as well as providing specialist vehicle maintenance. |

Stress, Structures and Advanced Products - Structural and Mechanical Engineers with capability in Air and Space, Maritime and Product domains, providing assurance and assessment for a range of products and structures. With specialisms in Non-Destructive test, Strength, Deformations, Resonance (including Vibration), and Life Assessment under static and dynamic conditions. This is often used to define maintenance periods and design assurance. The team also has experience in progressing technical readiness levels of novel designs. |
