The Programme

QinetiQ currently have spaces open on our RF, Secure Networks & Comms 2019 Graduate Programme which will be split into two teams. Are you ready to start your career experiencing the breadth and depth of RF, Secure Networks & Comms? Read Below!

As a graduate you will be enrolled into QinetiQ’s two year Graduate Development Programme. This has been designed to give you maximum exposure to the company as well as all the necessary training for your selected role. You will be assigned to a Skill Group based on your expertise and experience. Once situated, you will be given access to world class technology, unique facilities and a strong support network to help develop your career path.

You will be able to choose from over 100 rotational placements throughout QinetiQ so that you can learn to understand the company as a whole. The role of the graduate would be to develop networking and infrastructure skills and apply these across multiple business areas including but not exclusive to Research, Cyber, Mission systems and Training to provide the right networking capability for their customers. Activities will include design, testing and configuration of networking and infrastructure systems, system and security administration, Integration and problem solving. The Communications engineers work on providing military radio and satellite systems on to a number of military platforms including ships and submarines.

You will receive hands-on experience of military radios in the laboratory environment, and will learn about the features they incorporate that enable them to fulfil their role. You will work on research and project support activities alongside our communication system experts. You will receive tutorials on aspects of radio communications and will undertake activities selected from: measuring radio performance, modelling waveforms and protocols, integrating radio system modules, developing a software defined radio capability. As the opportunity arises you will take part in field trials, measurement campaigns, capability demonstrations and/or military platform visits.

You will gain experience with:

  • Researching Space Weather modelling
  • Researching methods of data collection of ionospheric properties e.g. Electron content through GPS measurement
  • Researching error analysis techniques for use on RF propagation data sets
  • Researching methods for the artificial modification of the ionosphere

Knowledge, skills and personal qualities required:

  • A suitable recognised science or engineering related qualification at a degree level or higher in accordance with the specific posts.
  • Good interpersonal, influencing, analytical and team working skills.
  • Good planning, organisation and coordinating abilities.
  • The ability to learn quickly to develop domain knowledge appropriate to the tasks required.
  • Customer facing skills: good listening and questioning skills to fully understand customers’ requirements and problems, good interpersonal and relationship building skills.
  • Good written and oral communication skills, including presentation skills.

Key accountabilities:

  • Ensure that customers’ requirements and tasks are fully understood and that problems and issues are reliably identified at the outset;
  • Contribute to the completion of, a detailed technical and commercial proposal for meeting customers’ requirements; provide presentations, reports and papers to customers and at conferences and symposia in support of the bid process as required;
  • Build and maintain technical networks internally and externally; develop good personal relationships

Other requirements:

  • This role is likely to involve travel in UK and possibly overseas and occasional periods away from home.
  • Graduates are expected to demonstrate objectivity, impartiality, detachment and integrity in delivering their contribution to QinetiQ’s goals.
