About the team

Analysis, Modelling and Simulation Team:

You will join an analysis, modelling and simulation team focused on radar and signal processing. There are a range of unique and interesting projects that the team works on including:

  • Radar modelling.
  • Waveform and signal processing chain design.
  • Design and utilisation of innovative radar technologies.
  • Research and design of novel algorithms for the technology of tomorrow.
  • Analysis and utilisation of real world data to support our customers decision making process.  

Predominantly our work is done to enable our maritime and Royal Navy customers, to advance their technologies and capability within the radar and signal processing domain. This gives war fighters and the UK as a whole an advantage in the modern warfare theatre.

There will be opportunities for you to work on a range of projects covering a number of different specialisms; expanding and enhancing the capability of our customers. Being a collaborative team there is always someone on hand to support you through your work so that you can utilise and learn from the experts.

What will I be doing? 

  • The primary scope of this role is focused on modelling, simulation and analysis within the radar and signal processing domain.  
  • You will undertake a variety of tasks, ensuring technical solutions meet business and customer requirements.
  • Developing your Matlab skills by designing, modifying and creating Matlab based models.
  • Enhancing your ability to effectively communicate highly technical information to a wide range of audiences; including the opportunity to seek out external conferencing and presentation events.
  • Deepening your specialist knowledge within the fields of radar and signal processing to become part of the next generation of subject matter experts.
  • Networking with a wide range of specialists across multiple domains and specialisms.
  • Getting involved with a variety of experiences to deepen and broaden your knowledge in specialisms outside your main role – with the opportunity to spend placements at a number of the QinetiQ sites around the UK.
  • Follow an internal development scheme that will support progression to chartered status with an appropriate professional body.
  • Promote innovation, inventiveness and standards of excellence within the delivery and/or capture teams.
  • You will have time and resources to explore the knowledge around your role and undertake additional training and experiences.

Academic requirements:

You will need to have obtained at least an undergraduate degree (including integrated masters) with a key focus on any of the disciplines listed below:

  • Physics.
  • Maths.
  • Additional STEM subjects covering radio frequency technology.

Additional requirements:

  • Have a strong interest and/or experience using Matlab or equivalent language such as Python.
  • An interest in working within the defence industry.
  • Excited by developing solutions to complex and difficult problems.
  • Passionate about scientific research and development.
  • The desire to develop a deep technical specialism.
  • Experience conveying technical knowledge to a wide range of audiences with varying levels of technological experience.
  • The ability to work collaboratively in a team to deliver for our customers.
  • Please be aware that many roles within QinetiQ will be subject to both security and export control restrictions.   • You must be prepared to go through the Government Vetting process.
